On the day of the trip, we'll meet at De Ruijterkade 153 and board a bus heading north from Amsterdam to the iconic Zaanse Schans windmills. One of the prettiest villages in the country awaits!
After a journey of just over half an hour, we'll arrive at this small town on the banks of the Zaan River, where windmills have become the ultimate symbol of an entire nation. We'll tell you the full story as we take in the most famous postcard view of the Netherlands. Perfect for photos!
Do you know what Zaanse Schans means? Or why it was such an economic powerhouse between the 16th and 18th centuries? Standing in front of these imposing windmills, we'll learn about their many uses and take a close look at their structure. We'll also step inside one to understand how they worked when they were used to grind the spices brought over from the colonies.
But Zaanse Schans isn't just about windmills. We'll also discover the long tradition of wooden clog-making, visiting a Dutch clog workshop to learn about the artisan process behind designing and crafting the country's most iconic footwear.
Our next stop will be a cheese farm, where we'll sample a wide variety of cheeses.
Our final destination of the day will be Zaandam, Amsterdam's famous LEGO City. Over the course of an hour, we'll uncover the secrets of this town whose buildings look as though they were constructed from colored bricks, with an entire urban layout reimagined as a modern take on traditional Dutch wooden houses.
Finally, we'll head back to the meeting point in Amsterdam, wrapping up this 4-hour 45-minute day trip.
