Built by the pre-Colombian Qanchi tribe, and later conquered by the Incas, the ancient Andean city of Waqrapukara is one of Peru's archaeological treasures.
Waqrapukara Trip
Once we have collected you from your hotel in Cusco between 3 and 4 am we will head south, deep into the Andes, stopping at Cusipata two hours away from Cusco. There we'll enjoy a delicious breakfast, before heading back to the bus.
We'll pass through stunning landscapes, picturesque villages, and deep turquoise lakes - before, after two hours we arrive at the Pitumarca village. From here we begin an eight-kilometre hike, up to the archaeological site of Waqrapukara.
We'll visit the ancient city of the pre-Colombian Qanchi civilization, including the Inti Punku archaeological site, an ancient fortress for Machu Picchu. The name means 'Sun Gate' and is one of the most important sets of remains in the area of the famous Inca city. You will see its main square and its turrets.
After visiting this stunning archaeological site of Waqrapukara, we will return to Cusipata to try a delicious Peruvian buffet lunch. After eating, we will finally return to the original point of departure point in Cusco, arriving at around 6 pm.
