On this free tour of Holguín, we'll delve into the City of Parks in Cuba, exploring a historical mural, a colonial museum and a church during our visit.
At the appointed time, we'll meet at the Parque de las Flores Park. Did you know that Holguín is known by Cubans as the City of Parks? Let's find out why!
We'll kick off our free tour of Holguín at the Orígenes mural, where four centuries of Cuban history are intricately sculpted in bronze relief, giving us insights into the country's journey up to the present day.
Next, we'll arrive at Calixto García Park, the largest park in the entire city. Here, we'll explore the La Periquera Museum, an imposing colonial-style building that has withstood numerous attacks during the wars of independence. Undoubtedly, it's a tangible footprint of history that you shouldn't miss.
Further on, we'll stop in front of the church of San José, located in the park of the same name. In neoclassical style, this is one of the oldest basilicas in Cuba.
And as the city of parks would not be complete without a space for children, our next stop will be at the Children's Park, where we'll be able to see some animals and, especially, birds, which live in specially equipped facilities.
Afterwards, we'll prepare to climb the 458 steps leading to the Loma de la Cruz (Hill of the Cross). But don't worry, you'll have the opportunity to rest on the numerous benches along the way. When we do reach the summit, you'll be rewarded with one of the best panoramic views of Holguín.
Following a final stop at an art gallery, we'll bid farewell at Marqueta Square after a 2.5-hour tour.
